Civil design of a 3300 tons per day capacity Cement Plant for Bestway Holdings Ltd., U.K. based on Japanese technology and design of plant by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hiroshima; Planning & design of all structures, Plant Buildings & foundations, storages, silos, conveyors, ancillary buildings, roads, drainage, services, and residential units. Main mechanical suppliers were Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Japan (MHI), Fam of Germany and Fuller of America.
Raw Material and Drying Mill
Job consists of analysis, design and production of structural drawings for concrete structure consisting of beams, columns, grid foundation, partial concrete slabs at some levels and slab at roof level. Design procedure consists of preparation and submission of formwork drawings based on mechanical design and the production of reinforcement drawings for construction after review and approval from MHI. Dead and live loads were calculated as per ACI code and wind and earthquake loads were calculated as per Uniform Building Code and the structure was analyzed three dimensionally against these applied loads on per storey basis, assuming fixity at column mid heights. Also two-dimensional frames were analyzed for the design of columns and to get reactions for foundation design. |
Cement Mill
Three-dimensional analysis of frame structure consisting of beams, columns, grid foundation, partial concrete slabs at some levels and slab at roof level. Design procedure consists of performing analysis, design and production of structural drawings for execution after approval from MHI. Equipment supporting and all secondary beams were considered while analyzing the structure to get a refined computer analysis. |
Truss beam over Cement Silo
3D analysis and design of truss beam. The phenomenon was to use the truss as a support for the shuttering and then concrete was poured after providing the necessary reinforcement i.e., burying the truss. Structure was analyzed for both structural steel and composite construction cases. |
Ancillary plant buildings
These buildings include bachelor flats, family apartments, Officer colony, Gate structure with guard rooms and 30m high overhead water tank with a capacity of 50,000 Gallons. Structural design of single and double storey buildings. Full coordination was made with architectural, mechanical and electrical design sections for the productions of structural drawings. The structures were composed of concrete slabs, load bearing block walls and foundation. Isolated column footings and continuous wall footings were provided in the substructure. Desert Lilly overhead water tank was analyzed using plate elements combined with substructure. |
