LDM Building Dubai, UAE
A 17 storey commercial building in Dubai, UAE near the seashore. The building was designed as structural steel frame with concrete floors, stairs and elevator shafts. Assignment includes the modeling of pile foundations of the structure with pile caps and elevator shaft base. Computer analysis was performed using frame elements as piles and plate elements as pile caps as per finite element theory. Soil springs were applied at all cross sections of varying soil data. |
Ganesh Temple Project Richmond Hill, Ontario
An expansion project of the existing temple building. The job was assigned for the accomplishment of project management and structural designing services. Scope of work for management services include assistance in project coordination with site, client, architect and sub contractors, project scheduling using bar charts, tracking of the project and maintaining dead lines by using CPM, tendering and awarding of contracts, preparation of tender and contract documents, modification of schedules as per client’s preferences and preparing lists of outstanding issues for immediate follow-ups. Structural responsibilities consists of analyzing and stress checking of glass reinforced concrete (GRC) dome and canopy structures against dead, live, wind, snow and icing loads. These GRC structures were manufactured and shipped from Bahrain (Middle East) in parts with supporting steel structures. Proper calculations were performed as per Canadian codes and standards for stability check and to submit the drawings to the city. All the steel supporting frames were analyzed three-dimensionally against the lateral forces. Support points of GRC panels on the existing steel structure were thoroughly detailed. Detailed measurement survey was conducted to produce as built drawings. |
Scotia Bank (Alpha Star Corporation) Toronto, Ontario

The design calculations include the design of roof deck, sizing and spacing of roof joists, design of pin and moment connected beams and design of columns and vertical bracings. All loads were calculated as per Ontario building code and standards. Structural drawings were fully coordinated with architectural and mechanical drawings |
S & Q Plastics Mississauga, Ontario
The project involves the design of multi-leveled platform around industrial equipment in a light industrial unit in Mississauga. A three dimensional analysis for the part structure was performed. The loads considered for the design were dead and industrial live loads with live loads assumed at one level at a time only as the structure has to be erected inside the building. The analysis was performed in a precise manner so as to maximum economize the design. |
King City Square (Alpha Star Corporation) Toronto, Ontario
A shopping mall with an area of 4500 ft2. at old Kennedy and Steels. The scope of works includes the design of superstructure and the production of structural drawings for construction. Expansion joint was provided keeping in view the length of the building. The superstructure was analyzed as two separate structures on either side of the expansion joint. The analysis was performed against dead, live, wind, snow and snow pileup loads calculated as per Ontario building codes and standards. Vertical bracings were provided at appropriate locations to provide required lateral stability. The design calculations include the design for roof deck, joist spacing, bracings and columns. An additional analysis was also performed to model a 22ft dia and 48ft high decorative steel tower above the food court. The support reactions from the analysis were used in the design of main structure. |
Skylight Structure
Structure steel roof skylight with a span of 11x11 m2. Tubular sections were used with the provision of installing heavy glass sheets. The structure was modeled three dimensionally with partially fixed supports at corners. The structure was site fabricated and the loads during erection/fabrication were also taken in to account with dead and live loads during analysis. |
International Squash Complex Islamabad, Pakistan
A Squash stadium with a provision of more than 1000 spectators. The system was having concrete columns with trusses, purlins and precast roof slab panels. The structure was built and was in service from last 5 years. The scope of work involves the rehabilitation of a failed truss, strengthening of four other trusses and devising the erection methodology mentioning the shoring locations for the trusses while strengthening. Frequent job site visits were conducted just after the problem highlighted. As an immediate decision part ceiling under the failed truss was removed and shoring was provided. As a second step the truss was reanalyzed against the applied loads and the actual site conditions. After research and study for a couple of days, the cause of failure concluded was the inadequate fabrication of truss pin support. Due to this non-behavior of pin the support was behaving partially fix and induced additional contraction stresses in the extreme weather and thus causing the failure of welded joint at the bottom chord member of the truss. As a remedial measure, additional plates were welded on both sides of the HSS section at the failure point and also at mid half span. Erection procedures were devised after discussing with contractors and fabricators to minimize the removal of false ceiling, mechanical piping, precast slab panels and roofing membrane. End support was also carefully modified to behave as a true pin. The guidance from the senior supervisor was quiet helpful for the accomplishment of the job in a better way. |
ICI Agro Chemical Plant Sheikhupura, Pakistan
Job includes the addition of canteen building, expansion of shower and wash areas and the expansion of the main packing plant.
Site measurements were taken for as build information and to match the expansion with the existing plant layout. Special considerations were given to accommodate the expansion with minimal alteration to the existing outdoor fixtures and effect on plant production. Services layout was also made to match the existing plant services.
The structures were designed in concrete by manual calculations and the junction of new and old construction was made either monolithic or expansion joints were introduced. All grid lines and levels were made to match the existing construction.

ICI Polyester Fiber Plant Sheikhupura, Pakistan
The scope of work included the complete conditional survey of the fiber plant to highlight the damaged or hazardous structures/members and to suggest immediate remedial and precautionary measures to strengthen them.
The common deficiencies and damages were exposure of steel reinforcement due to chipping off the concrete cover in concrete elements, corrosion of concrete due to chemical action, presence of cracks in block walls, rusting of steel platforms and members, concrete chip off from columns due to scratches from cranes and fork lifters, roof and expansion joint leakage, roof drainage, rusting of anchor bolts, steel sheds and platforms.
A detailed report of the survey was submitted to the client mentioning the condition of each structure in terms of its structural elements and remedial measures for each particular deficiency all in a tabulated form.

Nestle Milk Pak Plant Sheikhupura, Pakistan
The scope of work assigned was to perform a detailed conditional survey of the plant to evaluate its cost for civil works as per present day market.
A detailed survey of each structure of the plant was conducted. A performa was generated to fill in for each and every level of the structures in respect to structural element sizes, types, condition, type and condition of finishes, type and extent of use, year of construction and its purpose of service. All architectural, electrical and mechanical fixtures were also taken into account, however, plant machinery, roads, drainage and underground services was not in the scope of works.
The data was then compiled and the present market cost for the materials and fixtures used was collected. The building cost for a new building of the same size and fixtures were calculated as per present day market and then depreciation factors were applied on each building as per its age, type of construction, type of fixtures and type of use to calculate its actual market price and a full documented report was submitted to the client. The job was accomplished under the full guidance of chief engineer.

Ibrahim Fibers Limited (Phase-II) Faisalabad, Pakistan
Design of new weaving unit addition in the fiber plant. Two-dimensional structural modals were analyzed on each direction for typical grids and loads. Inverted beams were provided on roof to have a clear hallway inside the building. Special care was given while providing roof slopes and drains.
Additional drawings were produced for detailed layouts of supply air and return air ducts above the roof and under the floor respectively. Air conditioning/humidification bay was precisely detailed and coordinated.
The building was constructed adjacent to the existing weaving unit with an expansion gap of 25mm. The column foundations for the first grid were designed independent of the foundations of the existing building columns. In fact new columns were supported on very rigid beams having foundations on both ends just as creating bridging phenomenon over existing foundations.
